Scene Description: Source caption: "Milton Abbey church (St. Mary, St. Michael, St. Sampson and St. Branwaleder), Dorset, 1 August 2019. The original abbey church was destroyed in a fire in 1309 and rebuilt thereafter in Decorated style although the nave was never built and the quire used as the nave instead. The tower and north transepts were added in the 15th Century in Perpendicular style. Wyatt remodelled it in the late 18th Century. Pictured is what had been intended as the quire but which in the event acted as the nave - which was never built."

It was commissioned by Baron Hambro in 1860 at a cost of £400, as a memorial to his wife, and executed by the Danish sculptor, Adolph Jerichau."
