Long (1923) mentions it as "a poor modern piece of work". The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [http://dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/milbornestandrew.htm] [accessed 12 December 2005] notes: "During the Victorian period it was sometimes the fashion to throw out ancient fonts and Street did just that [i.e., George E. Street in the 1870s], installing in its place a new replacement. Fortunately, the old Norman font, decorated with a cable motif, was re-discovered in 1930 and put back in the north aisle, where it remains in use to this day". The Victorian font consists of an octagonal basin [i.e., square with chamfered corners] raised on a square pedestal base with colonnettes at the angles, and an octagonal lower base or plinth; the sides of the basin are decorated, one of them showing a cross in a circle. It is now located in the west end of the south aisle. [cf. Index entry for Milborne St. Andrew No. 1 for the Norman font in this church].
