There are eight entries for this Gillingham in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/ST8026/gillingham/] [accessed 11 November 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Noted in the 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874): "The font has an octagonal basin of Purbeck marble, and is of good Perpendicular design." Noted in Long (1923) as a good example of the enriched octagonal fonts of the Perpendicular period in this county, this one decorated with foliage motif. In Newman & Pevsner (1972): "Font. Perp[endicular], octagonal, with paterae motifs." Listed in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble [polygonal II type]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST8064126583 ] notes; "Parish church, chancel C14, main body of church 1838-1839, west tower 1908-1909, south chapel and vestries 1921. [...] C15 font with octagonal bowl with paterae-much worn." [cf. Index entry for Gillingham St. Mary's No. 1 (Dorset) for a Norman font in this church -- NB: Newman & Pevsner (ibid.) do not mention the Norman font in their entry]
