Noted in the 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874): "The old font was a modern free-stone bason on a pillar". Newman & Pevsner (1972) write: "Font. C18, baluster type." The font appears illustrated in The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [http://dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/edmondsham.htm] [accessed 1 December 2005] and does not seem to match Newman & Pevsner's description above, though the dating is probably correct: the font consists of an octagonal basin with stylised quatrefoil motifs on the sides, a moulded underbowl, and is raised on a polygonal pedestal decorated with mouldings. [NB: the original fabric of the church goes back to the 12th century, but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
