Noted in Murray (1873) as "the old font". In Pevsner (1983): "Simple Norman font". 'The Story of Our Village', written by W.I in 1960 [http://fast-trax.50megs.com/wgHistory.html] [accessed 28 January 2010] notes: "The font is a plain octagonal sandstone bowl on a circular shaft with a round limestone base. The base appears to be of original date, but the bowl of a much later period." The English Heritage description of this listed (Grade II) church http://www.durham-pa.gov.uk/DURHAMCC/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRN=D12516] [accessed 28 January 2010], however, notes: "Norman octagonal bowl font on Frosterley 'marble' pedestal".
