The collections of the Museo Arqueológico Nacional of Madrid, Spain, include a ciborium of the Visigothic period; this structure may have been installed over a sunken baptismal font; the square top has a round arch on each side and rests on four round columns with plain bases and decorated capitals; each of the arches of the upper volume is underlined by a decorative band of scroll or interlace pattern; the ornamentation of the spandrel areas above these bands varies, and includes a Greek cross, a pair of facing peacocks with a small blank cartouche between them, floral motifs, tetrafoils, a sun-disk and an inscription. The capitals of the four supporting columns have leaf and floral decoration.
