There are three entries for this Wilton [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/NZ5819/wilton/] [accessed 25 November 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Charles Eyre's History of S. Cuthbert (3rd ed., 1887: 268-269) reports the church here as Norman, with an early-Norman porch, but mentions no font in it. Morris (1931) writes: "Low, massive, circular, probably 12th-cent. font". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: NZ5830419745] notes: "Church, c.1800 on plinth of C12 and C13 church, incorporating much original masonry including south doorway and some windows. Altered c.1850; restored, re-roofed and vestry and boilerhouse added, 1907/08. [...] Mid/late C19 carved stone font." [NB: was the old font removed since the last time it was reported in the church ca. 1931?]
