There are three entries [one is multiple-place] for Sutton [on the Forest] [cariant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE5864/sutton-on-the-forest/] [accessed 16 December 2019], one of which reports a priest and a church in it. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (York North Riding, vol. 2, 1923) notes: "Until the beginning of the 13th century the patronage of the church was in the hands of the lords of the manor. [...] The church was very largely rebuilt in 1877, only the tower and the south nave wall remaining of the old building. The rebuilding is regrettable, as the ancient structure was unique in this part of the country"; no font mentioned in it. Morris (1931) notes: "Stoup inside S. door". This stoup, "by the door", is also noted in the entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE5829664723]. [NB: we have no information on the font of the medieval church here].
