Scene Description: Source caption: "Looks can deceive. At first glance St Andrews looks like a Georgian church as it was almost entirely rebuilt in 1741. However, the interior reveals much Norman work and is of great interest."

There is multiple-place entry for Ingleby [Greenhow] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/NZ5806/ingleby-greenhow/] [accessed 18 December 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The font here is mentioned in John Blackburne's The Register Booke of Inglebye iuxta Grenhow [...] (Canterbury: Cross & Jackman, 1889, p. xxxi): "he existing font is apparently of Norman origin, but has been to a considerable extent re-modelled." The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (York North Riding, vol. 2, 1923) notes: "The building is largely of 12th-century date, but originally terminated eastward in a semicircular apse, part of the foundation of which on the south side was discovered in 1906 [...] The font consists of a portion of the original 12th-century bowl made up with new work". Morris (1931) notes a "curious circular font" in this church. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: NZ5809006277] notes: "Church. C12, C13, 1741 and 1906. [...] C12 tub font on probably C13 swept circular base with deep roll moulding, the carving of the basin not fully finished."
