Font Notes:
There are two entries for Studley [Roger] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SE2970/studley-roger/] [accessed 26 November 2014], neither of mentions cleric or church in it. There are also two entries for Studley [Royal] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SE2770/studley-royal/] [accessed 26 November 2014]; they mention neither cleric nor church in them. A modern font here is noted in Mee (1941): "The massive marble font has figures representing infancy, youth, manhood, and old age". Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin of reddish marble -a typical Victorian choice- four sides of which have embedded brass sculptures with the above-mentioned motifs accompanied by an inscription of each in Latin; the basin is raised on an octagonal moulded pedestal base and a poligonal plinth with kneeling stone. Round wooden cover with heavy metal decoration and locking system. Though this church is often described as a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture, the work of William Burgess, the font is just one more example of Victorian excess and poor taste.
