Butler (2007) cites Raine as source for a dedication to St. John the Evangelist

There is an entry for Wadworth [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SE5697/wadworth/] [accessed 3 December 2018] but it mentions neither cleric not church in it. A font here is illustrated in Hunter (1828-1831), who gives the dedication as St. Mary's. Noted in Glynne's 29 January 1869 visit to this church (in Butler, 2007): "The font has an octagonal bowl with a range of quatrefoild round its upper part, and below some arcading, with foliaged capitals, of curious character, possibly Edwardian, on an octagonal stem." Noted in Morris (1932): "Good octagonal Dec[orated] font." Mee (1941) calls it a medieval relic. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK5687897071] notes: "Church. C12, C13, C14 and C15.[...] Font: C15, octagonal with quatrefoils beneath the rim." The Parish web site [http://www.wadworthloversallchurches.org.uk/StJohns.htm] [accessed 26 November 2008] has: "The font probably dates back to the 15th century."
