There are three entries for Newton [Kyme] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE4644/newton-kyme/] [accessed 13 August 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Morris (1932) writes: "Plain, circular, Norm[an] font." Ditto Mee (1941). The entry for this church in the CRSBI (2019) notes: "A plain cylindrical font is in the space between the W respond and the entrance to the tower. It is coarsely tooled, patched with cement where the fastening was and at the bottom; there are traces of white and red colouring. It is mounted on a later plinth. Basin flat, with inner corners rounded." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE4657944881] notes: "Church. C12, C13, C14 with later additions. [...] C12 cylindrical font with C19 cover and base." The entry for this church in the web site of the Tadcaster Benefice [www.stmarystadcaster.co.uk/a-tour-of-st-andrews-newton-kyme.html] [accessed 13 August 2019] notes: "The 12th century font was moved to its present position in 1894."
