Church Notes: Anglo-Saxon church here
There is an entry for Ledsham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SE4529/ledsham/] [accessed 30 October 2018] but it mentions neithyer cleric not church in it. Only a new font is mentioned in Glynne's 10 May 1862 visit to this church (in Butler, 2007): "The font modern." The font and Norman doorway are noted and illustrated in Bogg (1902). The earlier font is noted in Morris (1932): "Old font outside, to the S. of the tower", and in Mee (1941): "there is an ancient font no longer used." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE4565029774] notes: "Church. Saxon and Norman, enlarged in C15, restored 1871 [...] at the west end of the nave a Norman round-headed tower arch, and above this an earlier round-headed window, at the east end a restored Saxon chancel arch, and in both sides at a high level remains of round-headed Saxon windows [...] remains of Anglo-Saxon masonry with interlace and cross"; there is mention of any font in it. The entry for this church in the CRSBI (2018) reports: "This font is now located in the E end of the N aisle, near the font that is used. It is full of odd pieces of stone, and it was not possible to see the inside or to measure the depth. It is not clear if the tub ever had the required locking devices fitted, or if it has been cut back at the top. The plain cylinder has four integral half columns which look as though they separated from the cylinder at the base, perhaps once supported by free-standing columns. The form is reminiscent of the larger font of supposed late 12thc. date in Ripon cathedral."
