Cox (1875) writes: "On entering the church by the south porch, the upper part of the old Norman font lies right before us, although a modern one is now in use. It is a massive circular stone, quite free from ornament, but still lined with lead. It is sixteen inches high, thirty in diameter, and ten in the depth of the bowl." Armitage (1905) reports that "the remains of a rude Norman font are preserved" in this church. Noted in Pevsner (1978): "Font. Norman, plain tub-shape." At least one local source [www.derbyshireuk.net] claims a Saxon date for this font.
