There is an entry for [East] Ardsley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SE3025/east-ardsley/] [accessed 17 October 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Glynne's 22 April 1871 visit to this church (in Butler, 2007) reports: "The font has an octagonal bowl with shallow panelling." A font dated 1663 is reported in Taylor's Ecclesiæ Leodienses (London, Leeds, 1875: 114). Morris (1932) notes it as a font of the Restoration period dated by an inscription to 1663. In Pevsner (1986 c1967): "Font. Dated 1663. Octagonal, plain, with sunk panels." Ryder (1993) reports "a '1663' font" in the re-built church [NB: the medieval building was demolished in 1881].
