There are two entries for Hintlesham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TM0843/hintlesham/] [accessed 20 June 2025], one of which reports "1.5 churches. 0.29 church lands" in it. Described in Parker (1855) as an octagonal font "with panelled bowl and pedestal". Noted in James Fielding [http://digitatlas.blogspot.com]: "The font is an E[ast] A[nglian] affair with lions on the base and Tudor rose and shields on the bowl." Noted in Knott (2009): "typically East Anglian; in good condition, and set rather gloomily under the organ gallery." There are four charged shields on the basin sides, two Tudor roses, one large square flower and a panel with four square flowers; the angles of the underbowl are exceptional in that there are only four angels, the other four, though originally designed for angels, as the incisions made by the carver still show angel's wings, are lion heads with wind-blown manes; the stem has four sedente lions alternating with four buttresses.
