There are two entries for this Croft [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP5195/croft/] [accessed 10 August 2015], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. A font here is noted in Pevsner (1984): "Font. Norman. The form is that of a large square capital with plain, large, palm-like upright leaves." Illustrated on the Diocese of Leicester web site [www.st.michael.croft.btinternet.co.uk]. Baptismal font of the leaf-capital type: square at the upper rim, the tapering sides decorated with large palm-like leaves to a round lower rim; raised on a cylindrical stem and a round-to-square lower base with foliage spurs at the corners. The wooden cover is in the style of the four-ribs- around-a-pivot type, probably Victorian, decorated with shields at 90-degree angles.
