Noted in Glynne's visit to this church before 1840 (in Butler, 2007): "The font is a plain octagon." Described identically in Speight (1883), who further mentions that "There is a beautiful font placed on the ground-floor of the tower, which was presented by John C.F. Ramsden, Esq. in 1877, in memory of his father, Henry J. Ramsden, late of Oxton Hall." [NB: this church goes back to Norman times but it is unlikely that the 'old' font would be of that date; it more likely belongs to one of the refurbishings of the church in the late-14th or late-15th centuries] [NB: the later font is not listed in this Index on account of its late date]
