There is a multiple-place entry for Kirkby [Lonsdale] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SD6179/kirkby-lonsdale/] [accessed 6 February 2020] but it mentions neither cleric nor church despite its obvious toponym [Cherchebi = village with a church]. Noted in the Kirkby Lonsdale Parish web site [www.kirkbylonsdaleparish.co.uk/churches.htm]: "The font formerly stood in a 14th century chapel at Killington, near Sedbergh." The font consists of an octagonal basin with tall chamfered underbow, damaged and very eroded, but still showing traces of panelling on the sides and underbowl; the pedestal stem has been repaired/restored, the lower part and the plinth being modern; the inner basin well is lead lined. No cover present. The redundant table-top square font on a five-column support base now in the churchyard appears Victorian.
