A note on the monostich "NI[ph]ON" found in several baptismal fonts in England appeared in The Gentleman's Magazine issue of November 1825. Among other vessels decorated with that inscription appears "round the edge of a large and capacious bason used in Trinity College, Cambridge, for the purpose of holding rose water to dip the fingers in after dinner".
