Noted in Cox (1912): "The octagonal 14th cent, font is of Pentewan stone." But, Pevsner (1970) states: "Font. New. The date C14 cannot be accepted." The Wasley web site [http://homepages.tesco.net/~k.wasley/Just_Penzance.htm] describes the font as "of Pentewan stone […] believed […] of post Reformation date." The baptismal font consists of a rather shallow basin of square shape, but the chamfered angles make it almost octagonal, the sides decorated with several motifs; it is raised on an octagonal pedestal base of three volumes, all plain, and an octagonal plinth. It appears to be either a later work, as suggested by Pevsner, or one case of total re-tooling and re-carving of an earlier font. Flat wooden cover with metal decoration and reinforcement; 17th-century?
