Font Notes:
On-site notes: baptismal font located in the churchyard, probably from one of the later medieval refurbishings of this church between the 13th and 15th centuries; the font consists of a round basin. somewhere between hemispherical and conical and a roughly cylindrical base; there are three large indentations in the upper rim which would be consistent with the fitting of cover locks, as well as holes drilled in the same area to secure the staples of the cover; the inner basin surface shows two drain holes, a vertical one in the centre and a diagonal one in one side; the latter may indicate that the font could have been used as a garden ornament or farm implement at some time, although there are a few cases of fonts with dual drain channels; the lower end of the base shows a small quadrangular indentation, perhaps for a fitting? part of the drain? [cf. Index entry for Santa Comba de Bande No. 1 for a Roman milestone recycled as baptismal font and located inside the church]
