On-site notes: a baptismal font, now [May 2005] standing in the courtyard between the residence and the monastery, appears to be a composite object, perhaps made up of different period components: the basin is plain and of a roughly conical shape, still furnished with three metal staples from an old cover at the upper rim; the stem has a conical upper section and a cylindrical lower one separated by a ring moulding; the lower base, which may be the earliest piece, is trapezoidal, wider at the bottom, the sides decorated with an acanthus motif. One of the upper sides of the of the basin has been cut with a deep regular groove, but it is not clear whether it was made to accommodate a font lock or to be used as spout for a non-liturgical [farming? trough?] function of the basin; the basin itself is cracked broken and has been repaired to keep it together. [NB: we have not been able to find any documentation on this object so far]
