The September 1862 issue of The Gentleman's Magazine informs that the font, which was earlier in the chancel, has been "removed to the west end of the nave", as part of the re-modelling done around the time of the report. [NB: the GENUKI site [www.genuki.bpears.org.uk/NBL/Eglingham] notes that records of baptisms in the church of St. Maurice go back to 1662]
