Font Notes:
Cassell's Gazettee of 1898 mentions a Norman font in this church, and Kelly's Directory of 1889 qualifies the font as Norman as well. Olivey (1907) describes the font: "The font is Late Norman, of grey granite, and very plain. It consists of an octagonal bowl, a round shaft, and a carved basement [sic]. Within the circular panels on its sides, among other devices, are the following in relief: a cross patoncee [potent?], a cross moline, a fimbriated saltire, and three chevrons in pale. The bowl is considered to be of later date than the shaft and the base". [NB: these three references are to Richard Milsom's transcriptions in [www.milsom.info/Mylor]]. Cox (1912) notes a font of the 13th century with an octagonal basin. Noted in Pevsner (1970): "Font. Octagonal, with a plain decoration of crosses. Base and shaft C13; bowl later."
