Described in Kroesen and Steensma (2004) as a good example of a 15th-century bronze font from the workshp of the bell-casting Klinghe family of Bremen: "Heinrich [Klinghe, son of Ghert Klinghe] cast the East Frisian fonts in Pilsum from 1469 which rests on the four evangelists, and that in Uttum from 1474, which depicts the Baptism in the Jordan". The bronze font consists of a roughly bucket-shaped basin akin to an inverted bell with the top cut off, raised on a four standing figures, the four Evangelists, with the peculiarity that each head of the figures incorporates the symbol of the corresponding Evangelist (e.g., John has a human figure but the head of an eagle); there is an arcade all around that includes a Crucifixion scene with Mary and John, as well as apostles, saints and musical angels; there is an inscription around the upper rim in which the date and the name of the artist are included; also part of the upper rim are two protruding human heads at opposite ends, both facing outwards and drilled with a large hole, obviously the anchoring points for the locking mechanism of the original cover, but there is no cover present now.
