Bronze baptismal of the late 15th century consisting of a bucket-shaped basin raised on four human figures at 90-degree angles, in the characteriscal design of fonts made by bell makers. Described and illustrated in Kroesen and Steensma (2004): "The font in Eilsum from 1472 by Ghert's [i.e., Ghert Klinghe] son Bartold depicts the saints under baldachins, divided from each other by angels playing music". Two inscriptions run around the upper and lower basin sides; between them an arcade of angular decorated arches with foliated spandrels house a number of standing figures that are identified as saints by the inscribed haloes around their heads, and separated by music-playing angels that serve as colums of the arcade; at the front, Christ in majesty in the Last Judgment scene, a sword to the left of His head, a club to the right; the lower inscription is interrupted at regular intervals by human busts. The four figures that serve as supports to the basin are very similar in general pose and attributes (all hold a book to the chest in the left hand and are similarly dressed in clerical garb).
