No entry for Herodsfoot found in the Domwesday survey. Cox (1912) lists a font of the Early English period in this church. Noted in Pevsner (1970): "C14 font, not of especially good workmanship, but of interesting design, with a circular bowl and a prieze of foliage scrolls along the upper rim. It is from the ruined chapel of St. Martin at Respryn, St. Winnow." The basin is raised on a plain cylidrical pedestal and a lower base consisting of a fat roll moulding on a square lower volume with spur/foliage motif at the angles. The wooden cover consists of a round base with carved edge atop which is a four-rib crown with an eagle finial.
