Font Notes:
Noted in Ghislain (1986) as a Romanesque baptismal font of the Mosan-namurois type, its decoration similar to that on the fonts at Wauthier-Braine, Opprebais, Grande-Enneille and Villers-la-Ville: the sides decorated with a blind arcade of round arches, as well as tendrils and palmettes. Noted and illustrated in the BALaT database, KIK-IRPA, Brussels (Belgium) [no. 10086017], with date 1101-1200. Catalogued and illustrated in Ghislain (2009) as a baptismal font of the Namurois group, filiation de Saint-Séverin-en-Condroz, made of limestone (calcaire de Meuse) ca. 1160, with remarks on its similarities to the fonts of Goesnes, Gerpinnes, Bastogne, Bléhen, Rethel and the one at Saint-Séverin-en-Condroz. The font, of which the central shaft of the base appears to be a replacement, has had a rough life; the basin is covered in damage and repairs, some of the latter really crude; most of the damage to the basin appears to be related to several metal staples for the anchoring of the font covers; the present brass cover dates from the first half of the 19th century.
