INFORMATION

FontID: 10796ARN
Object Type: Baptismal Font1
Church/Chapel: Liebfrauenkirche
Church Patron Saints: St. Mary the Virgin
Country Name: Germany
Location: Erfurt, Thüringen
Font Location in Church: Inside the church
Font Notes:
There is no information available at present about the original font in this church; it would have been dated to ca. 1220, the date of the original early-Gothic church. The baptismal font in use now appears modern: it consists of an octagonal basin with two blind trefoil arcxhes on each side, and a plain rounded underbowl; the slender stem of the base is octagonal and plain but for marked mouldings at top and bottom; the lower base is square-to-octagonal and otherwise plain. Intesrting wooden cover decorated with pinted panels on the sides. [We are grateful to Ann & Tom Heck, of Santa Barbara, USA, for the photographs of this font]
