Font Notes:
Romanesque baptismal font believed to be originally from a church in the area; the original basin is bucket-shaped and decorated with a shallow-carved arcade of round arches containing foliage and/or Tree-of-life motifs; the upper rim is decorated with a double moulding: rope at the top and roll below, both thin. There is evidence of damage to the upper rim consistent with the type caused by the forceful removal of old cover staples. [cf. Index entry for Wartburg No. 2 for a baptismal font of the same period in the chapel]
