Church Notes: Parish church. Late C12, C13, C14, C15, restoration of 1854 and 1868
There are two entries for Linwood [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TF1086/linwood/] [accessed 20 September 2018] one of which reports "0.3 churches" in it. Paley (1844) notes: "Fine early Decorated Font [...] where the square stem has its angles rounded off into engaged shafts with plain capital and base mouldings." Described in Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989): "Octagonal, with blank windows in flat carving, all motifs of c. 1300, as if taken from a pattern-book." The entry for this church in Historic England [ "All fittings are C19 [...] but the font is a recut of the original late C13 font and includes the original base. It comprises an octagonal bowl with traceried panels on a square pedestal with engaged columns at the angles, on a stepped base."
