Described and illustrated in Richards (1973): "The font [...] is octagonal with decorated panels, and inscribed: -- W.P.: F.C.: I.S.: C.W.: 1660: I.K.M." The font consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides and a chamfered underbowl that ends in a thick roll moulding, an octagonal stem with a thin roll moulding, and a moulded lower base, also octagonal. The narrow plinth is octagonal and plain. Some of the sides of the basin have a saltire motif on them, while the others have been carved with large inelegant lettering: the date appears on one of the panels above the initials "WP", and again on the stem of the base, upper side, followed by the initials "PM" [or "FM"?]. Richards (ibid.) does not mention the initials "FM", which appear on another basin panel under "FC". The flat wooden cover appears modern. The font has an ungainly, clumsy appearance.
