There is an entry for this Haddenham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL4675/haddenham/] [accessed 24 September 2015], but it mentions neither cleric not church in it. Kelly's Directory of this county for 1929 informs: "in the south porch stands an earlier and perfectly plain font, which was dug up in the churchyard, and is presumed to have belonged to the former church". The Victoria History of the Counties of England (Cambridge..., vol. IV) notes: "The plain bowl of a 13th-century font is fixed in the north-east angle of the porch." [NB: this object is not noted in Pevsner (1970)]. A note in the web site Haddenham Online [www.helta.co.uk/haddenham/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=31] [accessed 27 October 2007] reads: "The font is of particular interest in that it contains the remains of an earlier font of simple design", and probably refers to the two fonts as listed in this Index. [cf. Index entry for Haddenham No. 2 for a font of the Perpendicular period now in use in this church]
