There are two entries for Cheveley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL6860/cheveley/] [accessed 12 July 2016], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Pevsner (1970) writes: "Font. Octagonal, Perp[endicular], panels with shields carrying [...] the Instruments of the Passion and the Signs of the Evangelists." The Victoria County History (Cambridge and the Isle of Ely, vol. 10, 2002) notes: "The church had a cruciform plan by the later 13th century […] 15th-century font." A recent photograph of this font in the web site of the Cambridge Historic Churches Trust [www.cambshistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/gallery.htm] [accessed 18 October 2007] shows it is brightly painted.
