There is an entry for Bottisham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL5460/bottisham/] [accessed 19 July 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Pevsner (1970) writes: "Font. Three fragments of a square bowl, one with chevron pattern, one with an engaged shaft. C12." The Victoria County History (Cambridge and the Isle of Ely, vol. 10, 2002) notes: "In the early 12th century Bottisham church had been attached to the Giffards' manor. […] From a preceding 12th-century church there survive fragments of a tympanum carved with a cross, and of a square font with chevron carving." Rogers (2002) writes: "the remains of a typical Norman font, of the twelfth century [...] in the Allington Chapel at the east end of the north aisle: [...] three fragments of a square bowl , circular inside with a central drain hole - one side with a chevron pattern, one corner with an engaged shaft" [NB: this description appears to have been taken almost verbatim from the RCHM (1972) entry for this church; the RCHM dates these fragments to the 12th century.]
