English Heritage [Listing NGR: NY6221408395] (1968) notes: "Parish Church. Various dates from late C12 [...] Octagonal stone font dated 1662 with initials D.W. & M.O." Baptismal font made of red sandstone and dated by an inscription to 1662; also on the panels of the basin are the initials "D.W.M.O." [source: Edward Bellasis' 'Westmorland Church Notes' (1888) transcribed in Sarah Reverley [http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~enzedders/ortonmis.htm]]. Pevsner (1967) notes: "Font. Dated 1662, and very characteristic of those years. Octagonal, with the date, initials, some stylized flowers, and the blank head of a Perp[pendicular] window."
