Cox (1913) notes that the old church "ïs of Norm[an] date" and that "the old font was transferred to the new church" [erected 1846]. The Cumbria Directory [www.thecumbriadirectory.com] notes: "The old church's font with its carved roundels was removed ...] to use in the new church". [NB: the old church of Ireby appears to go back to the late-Norman or Transitional period, which may well be the date of the font] [cf. Index entry for Ireby No. 1 for an Early-Christian lead font (?) found in the area]
