There is an entry for Witheridge [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SS8014/witheridge/] [accessed 8 November 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Oliver (1840-2) writes: "The font and the capital [sic] of the pillars supporting the four circular arches of the nave, are justly admired for the boldness of the sculpture". Stabb (1908) writes: "There is a good font of the same style and date as that at Chittlehampton." [i.e. Perpendicular] [cf. Index entry for Chittlehampton]. Noted in Pevsner (1952): "Font. Perp, octafonal, quite richly decorated, mainly with quatrefoils." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SS8032714568] notes; "Anglican parish church. Circa 1500, restored 1841 and 1884. [...] Perpendicular font, octagonal, richly decorated with quatrefoils."
