Described in Spreat (1842): "The font is octangular with a quatrefoil having a shield or figure in the centre, on each face, resting on an octangilar column having on each face two trifoliated panels, or one with a figure in the centre." Noted in Stabb (1908) as a baptismal font of the 15th century. In Kelly's Directory of 1914 [cited in http://www.devonheritage.org/Places/Ipplepen/DescriptionofIpplepeninKellysDirectoryof1914.htm [accessed 23 February 2009]]: "the font is Early Perpendicular, and has a panelled basin with carved figures". In Pevsner (1952): "The usual octagonal C15 type with quatrefoils and shields, and with three statuettes on pillar and bowl. One of the shields shows the arms of Bishop Lacy of Exeter (1420-55)." In Hoskins (1954): "The font and rood-screen are said to be c. 1430- 50."
