The church at East Allington is reported in Stabb (1908) as "a fine Perpendicular building" but there is no record of a font of that time. Stabb, however, mentions an original holy-water stoup in the south porch, and reports the fate of a later font: "The alabaster reredos, the work of Mr. H. Hems of Exeter [ca.1890?], is handsome, a former font also of alabaster was spoilt, the precaution not having been taken of lining it with lead, and the water soaked into the stone." In Kelly's Directory of 1939: "A baptistry and stained glass window were presented in 1892 by Mrs. Cubitt, in memory of her husband, William Cubitt Esq., and at the same time, a reredos of white and pink alabaster was erected; a new font of white and pink alabaster, with carved oak cover, was given by Mrs. Cubitt" [source: quoted in http://www.devonheritage.org/Places/East%20Allington/EastAllingtoninKelly1939.htm [accessed 18 January 2009]]. The entry for this church in Historic Egnalnd [Listing NGR: SX7697248353] notes: "Parish church. Probably C13 origins, enlarged in C14, enlarged again and remodelled in early C16 and restored in mid C19 by William Cubitt and reopened in 1875 [...] The marble font is circa 1900"; no stoup mentioned in the entry.
