There is an entry for Buckland [Brewer] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SS4120/buckland-brewer/] [accessed 3 June 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. A font here is noted in Pevsner (1952): "Font. Is it C17?" [NB: an e-mail communication of 4 June 2015 from Janet Few, of the Buckland Brewer History Group, notes: "According to W E Rogers, who wrote a history of the parish in 1930 'The Font was hued by one Thomas Jewell in 1771, for which he was paid £1 7s.'; he make no mention of an earlier font. I think this information is taken from a Churchwarden’s Account that is now missing. Although there would certainly have been an earlier font, I am afraid that we do not know what happened to it."]
