Font Notes:
Miniature baptismal font described and illustrated in the Staffordshire Past Track web site [www.search.staffspasttrack.org.uk]: "The small font is a portable font from the Methodist Chapel at Garshall Green. When the chapel closed in 1981 the font and pews were removed to All Saints' Church, Milwich." The object consists of a round shallow basin raised on a columnar base (centre shaft and three? outer colonnettes), and a round moulded base. It appears made of marble, about 20-25 cm in height, and may be a replica of a full-size font [NB: portable fonts are not a common place and, where they occur, tend to be of a functional design rather than replicas of the full-size models. There is however a number of replica and miniature fonts, some of them made of goss ceramic and highly collectable. BSI has come across a number of other more popular models made of more humble materials].
