Described and illustrated in thge Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in Britain and Ireland (2008) as a baptismal font of the 12th century with partial decoration: "Only four complete arches survive, on the N side of the bowl. The remainder of its surface is flat, the decoration apparently having been shaved off and the surface retooled [...] The bowl stands on a chamfered circular impost, and this on a cylindrical shaft and an octagonal chamfered base. Only the bowl is 12thc."
Baptismal font consisting of a round tapering basin raised on a cylindrical column and an octagonal lower base; the basin is only partially decorated between the two roll mouldings that frame the sides top and bottom; another roll moulding is located atop the stem of the base, which appears of later date. Described and illustrated in the Staffordshire Past Track [www.search.staffspasttrack.org.uk]: "The font [...] dates from the thirteenth century and is decorated with roll moulding at the rim and base. Part of the font is plain and it is probable the font was never finished or may have been damaged during the Reformation." [NB: the basin side is where the partly-decorated is found: about half of the surface of the outer side has been roughly carved with a blind arcade of arches that begin to show the pointed shape; the other half is totally plain except for the mentioned mouldings]. [NB: this same source describes and illustrates a second -miniature- font next to the above -- unlisted entry in this Index under Garshall Green"]
