Early-Christian baptistery built in the 5th century by Amable, a priest of Riom, and dedicated to St. John the Baptist; Augustinian church since 1077; parish church since 1548; converted into a saltpeter factory during the Revolution, it was reinstated to the cult 18 months later. The entry for the present building in Mérimée [ref.: PA00092262]: "L'église a sans doute été construite à la place d'un ancien baptistère d'époque gallo-romaine. Mentionnée en 1192, l'église était alors paroissiale et était affectée à l'administration du baptême [...] A la Révolution, l'église fut désaffectée puis vendue comme bien national [...] Sous un voûtin pratiqué dans les murs de l'église, du côté sud, se voit encore la trace des anciens fonts baptismaux."
