There is an entry for Brading [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SZ6087/brading/] [accessed 13 February 2020] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 5, 1912) notes: "an octagonal font of small dimensions and mixed dates". Lloyd & Pevsner (2006) note a small octagonal font "probably C17". The object consists of a basin raised on a tall pedestal base with a splaying lower base, all of them octagonal; the basin has plain vertical sides; the underbowl is moulded; the stem of the base and the lower base are both plain. Flat wooden cover, octagonal. [cf. Index entry for Brading No. 1 for an earlier stoup and Brading No. 3 for an earlier font listed for the same church]
