Font Notes:
The section on 'Antiquarian News' in The Antiquary (vol. VIII, July-December 1883: 228) notes: "a massive octagonal font in this church". Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). Described in the National Monuments Record, English Heritage [http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=263923] [accessed 18 September 2009]: "low font, octagonal with quatrefoil panels each face, on simple base, C15 style but may be C19". Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin raised on an octagonal-to-square pedestal base; both basin and base, but especially the latter, have been drastically cleaned or re-cut. The sides of the basin are decorated with deeply-set quatrefoil motifs; the inner well is round and unlined; there are no visible traces of cover hardware in the upper rim of the basin; the chamfered underbowl is plain and slightly concave, and ends in a round moulding that tops the octagonal stem; the lower base, where the octagonal stem adopts a square shape, has know-like motifs at the four angles. Quadrangular plinth with kneeling stone.
