Baptismal font described rather dismissively in Oliver (1840-1842): "Entering by an acutely pointed south arch, the first object that attracted notice was a very low Font, but without any pretensions to beauty." Noted and illustrated in Stabb (1908): "The font [plate 167] is old, with a square bowl, scalloped beneath and on the base." Described in Clarke (1920): "Distinctly a table font, though the under surface of the bowl is cut into cones, five on each side; they are of irregular width, and at the south-east corner there is a small quirk to fill up the space. The four sides of the bowl are quite plain, but the ends of the cones produce the effect of a scalloped edge. The shaft is cylindrical, resting on a modern plinth, which by a very egregious bit of bad taste, repeats the design of the bowl, inverted; a series of cones appearing on the upper surface. The whole font is of red local stone." Noted in Pevsner (1952): "Font. Norman square bowl with scalloped underside (cf. Cadbury, Christow) on short round shaft standing in its turn on a squarebase with scalloped top."
