Cox (1912) notes a font of the Early English period in this church: "Old octagonal I3th cent. font remains, but bad taste has provided a successor which is in use." The present baptismal font appears to be of the Victorian period, mid-19th century, probably from 1855, the date of the consecration of the re-built church; the earlier church was destroyed by a fire that occurred "on the night of Good Friday, 25th March 1853 [...] the whole building was burnt down", as the GENUKI site [www.genuki.org/uk/Cornwall/StHilary] informs. It is quite possible that the earlier font may have been replaced by the new one at the time. [NB: we have no recent information on the whereabouts of the old font]
