There is an entry for Newton [Tracey] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SS5226/newton-tracey/] [accessed 18 August 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Font here described in Lysons (1806-1822) as of a group of "square Saxon fonts on circular pillars, or pedestals." Noted in Pevsner (1952): "Font. C13 with elaborate stiff-leaf decoration and cable moulding at the waist." The entry for this church in Historic England [https://historicengland.org.uk/services-skills/grants/visit/st-thomas-a-becket-newton-tracey-ex31-3pl/] [accessed 18 August 2019] notes: "13th century small parish church remodelled in 15th century when the tower was added. Restored 1867-8 by R. D. Gould, when the 13th century north aisle was entirely rebuilt. Some medieval Barnstaple floor tiles remain in north aisle. 13th century font."
